Meet BMW's M best cars ever with high performance you can drive every day. And after four decades of hair-raising thrills, it's still pushing the limits. It all started on the track in 1972 what began as a division for BMW's racing team quickly grew to become an incredible passion for many BMW enthusiasts.
TOP 10 BEST BMW M CARS OF ALL TIME EVER.
10.BMW E30 M3
The idea behind the first BMW M3 was to
make a racing sedan available as a street version. Nobody foresaw just what a
roaring success the M3 would become – on everyday roads as
well as the world’s greatest race tracks. The heart of the BMW M3 was
undoubtedly its sophisticated four-cylinder engine. The basis for this was the
two-liter four-cylinder from the then 3 Series, which was completely revised.
In its five years of construction, the car’s performance continued to rise. In
1988, for example, the Evolution version was launched on the market with 220 hp
and a maximum speed of 243 km/h. Only 600 models of the BMW M3 sport
evolution were made – making the most powerful series E30 of all time, one of
the rarest and therefore most coveted classic cars.
9.BMW E34 M5
This came out in 1988 two years after the M3 and
it looked rather like the normal 5 series apart from some side skirts though
these did increase the drags it wasn't quite as aerodynamic as the normal 5
series it didn't matter because under the bonnet was a 3.4-liter straight-six
with 315 hp. This drove the rear wheels by a 5-speed manual gearbox and could
propel the car from naught to 60 in just 6.3 seconds and on to 160 miles an
hour. The car came with adaptive a suspension which is very high-tech for its
day and the problem is it's also a bit unreliable so if you've got one of those
cars now you could be looking at a huge repair bill to get it fixed.Another
interesting thing about the E30 for M5 is that it's the
first-ever M car to be available as a touring also is the last
ever M car to be completely hand build.
8.BMW E26 M1
Back in the 70s BMW and Lamborghini and
the two firms worked together to produce BMWs first-ever and only ever supercar
and it was BMW M1. Lamborghini did the chassis
and BMW provided the engine which was the 3.5-liter
straight-six from the E24 M6 and it had 277hp was mid-mounted
drove the rear wheels for a 5-speed manual gearbox and could propel the car
from naught to 60 in just 5.6 seconds on to 162 miles an hour. Now back in the
days the M1 cost 37,500 pounds which are 7 grand more than
a Ferrari 512 BB and if you account for inflation it means the M1 will
cost in today's 235,000 pounds where that's actually considerably less than the
cars fetched today or auction.BMW only made four hundred and
fifty-three of the cars and they gave one of them to Andy Warhol in
1978 for him to paint and that car is now super-super expensive.
7.BMW E39 M5
The important thing about this car was that it was the
first M5 to get a V8 engine. It was a 4.9 liter with a double
Vanos which basically is variable valve timing and BMW speak
had a dry sump and individual throttle bodies. As a result it produced 400hp
that drove the rear wheels for 6-speed manual gearbox and could propel the car
from naught to 60 in just 4.8 seconds though top speed was limited to 155 miles
an hour. The interesting thing about this car is that it actually had a worse
steering system than the 6-cylinder normal 5 series because of the big V8
upfront, it couldn't use rack and pinion steering. It had to use
recirculating-ball steering which is kind of old fashioned and it's what they
used in the previous generation G-wagon. One of the great things about
the BMW E39 M5 is
that it's a classic sleeper car and yes it does sit slightly low to the ground
because it's got loads stiffened suspension and be for anti-roll bars but it
just looks pretty much identical to the normal 5 series.
6.BMW Z3M COUPE
It was nothing of the sort had a weird shooting brake
design and was so distinctive it even earned itself a nickname "Clown
Shoe" which is short of appropriate really as well as upgraded
bodywork with flared arches. It also had a widened track for improved handling
a limited-slip differential uprated suspension and anti-roll bars and breaks
from the E36 M3. It also got the 3.2 liter straight 6 engine which
had 321hp and later on got the 3.2 liters straight from the E46,
unfortunately, didn't get that car 6-speed manual gearbox and had to make do
with a 5-speed manual because it was so short that you can actually fit 6-speed
in it. It still had an impressive performance and could propel the car from
naught to 60 in just 5.6 seconds while top speed was limited to 155 miles an
hour.
5.BMW E60 M5(V10)
This car's pie piece is, of course, it's fabulous formula
one derived V10 five-liter naturally-aspirated engine and it is glorious. In
normal mode, it will produce rather healthy 400hp but if you press a power
button it will give you a full 500hp that's good to propel the car from naught
to 60 in just 4.7 seconds and if you pay to have that speed limiter removed it
will go on from 155 miles an hour all the way up to 190 which is insane for a
family car and it also sounds awesome. Some of the problems this car has is it
can throw a rod bearing and if does that then you're looking at massive repair
bills because it could run-off the engine and then there's a problem with the
automatic gearbox and the pumps which power it and they could be costly to
replace as well. One interesting thing about the M5 is that
you could also get it as a toy, they're rarer and they're undoubtedly cooler.
4.BMW E82 M1 or1M COUPE
This was the first time the one series got any treatment
though interestingly didn't actually, get a proper M engine
instead it used the normal 3-liter twin-turbo straight-six from the Z4 though
the original Hp is still quick enough so that it could drove the rear
wheels bar a 6-speed manual gearbox and could propel the car from naught to 60
in just 4.9 seconds and on to 155 miles an hour. However, underneath the skin
the 1M was a proper M car, in fact, it was
almost identical to E92 M3 used that car's brakes suspension,
suspension control arms, wrists subframes and rear limited slip differential,
as a result, it was a bit of beasty to drive because when he combined that
setup with the power and the short wheelbase, you got a car which is pretty
twitchy on the limit and did like to go sideways very-very quickly especially
if you press the M button on the steering wheel because then
you got an extra 50 newton meters of torque for the lighting of those rear
tires.
NOW WE COME TO THE TOP 3 BEST M CARS EVER
3.BMW M635 CSI
It was released in 1983 and it used the same 3.5 liters
straight-six up from the M1 supercar only tuned up slightly so
it now had a 286hp so this could propel the car from naught to 60 in 6.2
seconds and on to a top speed of 158 miles an hour. The car was based on the
normal E24 6 series having a sharp nose look though at the
front it also had a splitter whereas at the back had some deeper bumpers
and a little spoiler and essentially mounted exhaust. Underneath the skin
though it was quite different so it had to rated suspension, strong brakes,
stronger chassis and a beefed-up gearbox to cope with an extra performance from
the engine.
2.BMW E46 M3 CSL
Now the normal E46 M3 is
a pretty plumbing decent car but BMW made it even better for
this limited edition version so they stripped out a load of weight by fitting
light windows, composite body panels and a carbon-fiber roof and they reduced
the weight by 110 kilos and obviously helped improve the performance as did and
it rated 3.2 liters naturally aspirated straight-six petrol engine which now
delivered 360hp thanks to retuned internals and a more aggressive camp profile
also has a carbon fiber airbox and as a result it sounds absolutely awesome.
The car also got rated suspension, brakes and a quicker steering rack as well
that made it even better to drive and quicker around a circuit and it's also
got semi-slick tyres as well for improved corner handling grip though of course
it's quite easy to still light up the rear tyres and do big skids in it and the
only applying ointment is a six field robotized manual SMG automatic gearbox
which is just a little bit clunky no wonder many owners actually convert to
manuals now if you fancy buying an E46 M3 CSL they are quite
rare less than 1400 were made as a result to hold their value very well.
1.BMW M8 COMPETITION
Back in the 90's BMW actually tried to
develop a V12 M8 but that never happened and we had to wait
until now to get a M8 and it has a 4.4 twin-turbo V8 and in
the case of competition this produces 625hp, it drives all four wheels via
8-speed automatic gearbox with a torque converter, not a clever deal clutch
like in some other M cars but still it does have launch control
and can go from naught to 60 in just 3.2 seconds and top speed is limited to
155 miles an hour though if you pay BMW extra 2 grand they
would be restricted and then it will do 190 miles an hour and if you want to
you can press a button to put the car from 4-wheel drive into 2-wheel drive
mode so you can do massive skids only if you're on track but this is not a
track car since it weighs almost 2 tons.
In my opinion, BMW M's blistering
power and is matched with responsive handling to deliver track level
performance in every maneuver.BMW's legendary engineering lies at
the heart of every M.Grip the wheel of any of the BMW's
M vehicle-from coupes and convertibles to sports activity vehicles-and
elevate your adrenaline rushes to a higher level.
